About Optimise your diet!

With Optimise your diet! we aim to address the challenge of making the global food production and consumption system more sustainable and healthy. This issue is becoming increasingly urgent. The growing world population and the even faster growing demand for environmentally intensive products is leading to the destruction of local and global natural capital. At the same time, a large proportion of the global population eat unhealthy diets and some have too little food.

Create a sustainable healthy diet

Optimise your diet! shows that, by optimisation, certain diets can become more sustainable and still meet all nutritional values. We challenge you to create a diet which is as sustainable as possible. Likewise, the diet needs to meet the dietary guidelines of a healthy diet. Please note that it still possible to create a diet with Optimise your diet! which might not be realistic.

Optimise your diet! is inspired by our optimisation tool Optimeal®.

Environmental data & nutritional guidelines
The data used in Optimise your diet! is derived from our optimisation software Optimeal®.

Optimeal® is software package, which enables to grasp the full picture of healthy and sustainable nutrition. It includes nutritional guidelines and environmental data. The nutritional guidelines are compiled in cooperation with Voedingscentrum (the Netherland Nutrition Centre) as well as typical Dutch diets calculated from the latest dietary surveys.

The environmental database of Optimeal® contains the greenhouse gas emissions, fossil energy use, land use and overall environmental impact (ReCiPe) of each product, calculated by Blonk Consultants, building on the latest version of the LCA Agri-footprint® Database. The data is representative for average foods being consumed in the Netherlands.
